About My Art

I paint for the freedom it brings- a space without rules or restrictions. My artistic practice draws from everyday life, memory, and black cultural perspectives.

The process of creating offers me a stimulation like no other. Each brushstroke brings clarity, challenge, and discovery. When I paint, I can lose myself completely, finding new ways to connect not only with my work but with those who encounter it. Overtime, I've realized that my dedication to painting inspires others to take chances on themselves-to pursue their own creative and professional paths with courage.

My work frequently explores the influences of black cultural icons on society. For example, in a recent body of work inspired by ESPN's The Last Dance, I explored how Michael Jordan transformed basketball into a cultural force that extended far beyond the court- reshaping fashion, art, and the economy. In one piece, The Rookie, I highlighted Jordan's early game play and style in longer shorts, looser jersey with his signature red and black sneakers, famously banned by the NBA.

My artistic process begins with wood sometimes found, sometimes store bought-which I sand, paint in dark tones, and then layer with dry acrylic from my pallette. Using a white pencil, I sketched the composition before building color. The final stage of my work introduces bold black lines that provides power, energy and spontaneity.

I consider myself an emerging artist, energized by a sense of possibility. Recently, I left my full-time job to devote myself fully to painting. Each day feels like a Friday-an open invitation to create, to explore, and to grow. Art has become both my discipline and my liberation: it consumes me, carries me to unexpected places, and continues to shape who I am.
